Understanding the Classic Wine Regions of Europe I, this course explores more legendary European wines. You'll examine France's Rhône, Provence, Languedoc-Roussillon, Loire and southwest regions; Italy's Piedmont, Tuscany, Friuli Venezia-Giulia, Veneto, Trentino-Alto Adige, and southern regions; Austria's Wachau, Styria, and Burgenland regions; and Hungary's Tokaji region. Wines from other regions may also be included.
During
Introduction to the Classic Wine Regions of Europe II course you will:
- Explore Italy’s classic regions of Tuscany (home of Chianti) and Piedmont (home of Barolo) gaining insight into the international success of the wines from these key areas.
- Discover two of the great “wine capitals of the world” located on the Iberian Peninsula, namely Rioja in Spain and Porto in Portugal.
- Participate in tastings of wines from throughout these regions examining the standards by which these classic European wines are evaluated so that you assess them in the correct context.
- Understand various countries' intricate wine laws and approved appellation systems, as well as the classification systems for specific wine regions.
Understanding the Classic Wine Regions of Europe I and II each stand alone as a complete course. It's not necessary to take one before the other.
